Nyali golf course lies north of the creek separating Mombasa island from the North Coast. This 18-hole course is laid out over a 150-acre site that was once part of an estate processing sisal for rope and twine production. When the Sisal market declined in the 1940s the owners of the property divided the land creating a 9-hole golf course in 1958. It was not until the 1980s that Nyali golf course was extended to an 18-hole course. Polana grass from Mozambique was used in the construction of all the greens at Nyali. The fairways are lined with flowering trees like the Madagascan Flame Tree. Wild animals still roam around and the occasional vervet monkey - the club's mascot as displayed on its logo - can still be spotted during a round.
